We offer our geometric software components under various licenses, in order to satisfy different needs and budgets of users from industry, industrial research, and academia. All licenses are governed by the General Business Terms and Conditions.

Industrial Development License

This is the license for industrial users who integrate our software components in applications that they commercialize, or that they use internally, for example in a production chain.

The prices of the components are a one shot fee, independent from the numbers of developers in the same company using the component, and they are royalty free.

Industrial Research License

This is the license for industrial users of our software components, who cannot immediately amortize software license costs because they work in a research division of a company. The license does not allow product development, or the commercialisation of a developed prototype. However, it releases you from the obligation to make your source code publicly available, that is it helps you to protect your intellectual property.

We charge an annual fee of 3,000 € per research division of a company for this license and it gives access to our complete component repository.

Academic Development License

This is the license for academic users of our software components, who want the right to not make their code based on CGAL available to the public. The license does not allow the commercialisation of a developed prototype. However, it releases you from the obligation to make your source code publicly available, that is it helps you to protect your intellectual property.

We charge an annual fee of 500 € per research group for this license and it gives access to our complete component repository.

Open Source Licenses - LGPL and QPL

The CGAL library is also available under an Open Source license.

The component framework, as well as a CGAL kernel are available under GNU's LGPL. This is an open source license, that allows to integrate our component in applications that you use internally in your production process or sell. The integration has no implication on the license you choose for your application. However, if you make any modifications to our component, you must make this available to your customer.

Most of the components that are based on the component framework and a kernel are available under Trolltech 's QPL. When you integrate our component in an application that you use internally in your production process, or integrate it in applications you sell, you must, on our simple request, make all the source code of this application or product accessible under an open source license.
